To tackle the culture of Rape and all forms of violence against Women and Girls in Sierra Leone.
The Men's Up Initiative is a male ally ship based in Sierra Leone. We are committed to address the culture of Rape and all forms of violence and injustice against Women and Girls. We take action through community based approach, peaceful campaign march, community fellowship and mentorship, and women's rights education. Our Vision is to educate Men (Old & Young) about the impact of Gender Based Violence while also implementing a strategy to eradicate rape and all forms of violence and injustice against Women and Girls. OUR ACTIVITIES: 1. PHASE ONE: COMMUNITY BASED APPROACH (ENGAGING BOYS & MEN) Engaging Men and Boys is at the center of our formation. We are actively working with Men and Boys around issues of sexual and gender based violence and increase activities directed at both teenaged and older males to discourage unwanted and unsolicited sexual activities with teenaged girls and women. Men's Up Initiative is working on setting up Boys clubs to operate similarly to girls clubs, as a safe space of engagement, education and Outreach for boys and Men to increase their knowledge of sexual and representative health and right and their sense of responsibility for the subject matter. 2. PHASE TWO: MEDIA & SCHOOL ENGAGEMENT ON SGBV: Airtime will be lobbied for Media engagement to do two hours radio and school teaching programs, jingles, and short skits on sexual gender based violence in our targeted communities of operations through a comprehensive and published modules on SGVB & FATHERHOOD. 3. PHASE THREE: ONE HUNDRED MAN MARCH & PUBLIC LECTURES AGAINST/ON SGBV: The One Hundred Man March is a nation-wide campaign against sexual and gender based violence. Its objective is to raise a peaceful nation-wide awareness on the most pressing resources, methods and immediate provisions needed in addressing SGVB. Also, the March is a continuing formation aimed at bringing men into the fight against SGVB that will give boys and adult Men the opportunity to examine their behaviors and beliefs for biases which permits the continuing of Rape. The attitudes of Men towards gender identities and policies in their communities (Househoods) will also be addressed.
