Sustainably Impacting The Lives Of Families In Sabah's Rural Community

Our Mission

With our mission to empower rural communities with the basic needs for sustainable living, Hopes Malaysia has been actively empowering remote and rural villages in Kadamaian, Kota Belud, Sabah, Malaysia (where there are over 74-poverty stricken villages), helping over 10,000 villagers and their families in rural communities live better each day. Based in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, our team has been working since 2016 to bring long-term, quality change to the often-underserved local rural families. We make it a must keep close engagement with the communities we operate in, to sustainably fulfil their basic needs in order to create further livelihood opportunities. Our sustainable projects include gravity water, sustainable farming, rebuilding poor and dangerous rural infrastructure (such as school bridges) and socioeconomic empowerment (especially for women). This aligns with our vision: sustainably breaking the poverty cycle.

Why support us

Hopes Malaysia places much importance and value on “Sustainable Development” in underprivileged rural communities, leading them to become self-sustainable communities in the long-term future. Since 2016 we have: 1) helped more than 10,000 rural Sabah villagers from 10 villages have access to clean gravity water. 2) connected more than 60 kilometers of piping to bring water to rural families' homes and farms. 3) introduced over 350 rural families to farm for food security and imporve the environment sustainably. 4) beyond 2,000 villagers from 15 villages now grow diverse vegetables and rear tilapia fish for food security. 5) over 1 tonne of produce is harvested monthly by our empowered rural farmers for healthy self-consumption. 6) surpassing 40,000 meals distributed as fresh food aid to care centers and underprivileged families since the pandemic started. 7) 3 community hanging bridges have been rebuilt, improving safety to over 2,500 rural school children and villagers. 8) excess of RM150,000 earned by our farmers selling their produce and handicrafts for extra income via our Tamu Kita (Our Market) entrepreneurial initiatives. The formula we hold firm in our charitable operations is “Sustainability + Impact + Practicality + Feasibility”. From addressing the basic needs of clean water and food security, to rural empowerment for an improved quality of life, our initiatives to create meaningful, long-term change in rural communities continues to expand - supporting families to thrive, not just survive.
