Engineering and Technology Against Poverty in Africa (ETAPA) Synergy

Bridging the Skills Gap, Driving Innovation, Transforming Africa

Our Mission

We empower and equip underrepresented young people through engineering and technological skills for personal development and community transformation.

Why support us

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that employment in STEM fields will grow by 8.8% between 2018 and 2028, faster than the average growth rate for all occupations. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, low-income students are less likely to pursue degrees in STEM fields than their higher-income peers. A study by the National Science Foundation found that students who participate in hands-on, project-based STEM programs are more likely to pursue STEM careers and have higher STEM-related career aspirations. Research has shown that hands-on, project-based STEM education can lead to higher academic achievement and engagement among students, as well as greater interest in pursuing STEM-related careers. By supporting our mission, we can provide underrepresented young people with: 1) With the tools and knowledge needed to access high-paying jobs in growing STEM fields, which can help break the cycle of poverty and create economic mobility for individuals and families. 2) Help them become agents of change in their communities, as they apply their knowledge to solve real-world problems and create innovative solutions that can improve the lives of others. 3) Help address their underrepresentation of in STEM fields, to promote equity and social justice
